Like most Opening Weekends, last week was average for my picks. The Liberty/ODU over and the UCLA/Cincy Under hit, while Penn State and Michigan did not. No more rust this week, we're going 6-0.

Liberty (+9) vs Army

Two words: Buckshot Calvert. I correctly picked the over in their game last week, and I might make a pick in all their games this season so I have an excuse to watch more Buckshot. What’s not to love from this guy? Named after a NASCAR driver, he’s cookie-cutter Florida white trash, and I can’t get enough of him. He completed 69% of his passes for 345 yards and 4 TDs with no picks in their season opener against Old Dominion. I knew this guy could sling it, but damn… I did not expect them blow out the Monarchs like they did. On the other sideline, Army came out flat against Duke and their offense never got going. Duke didn’t pass much, but when they did, Army put up little resistance. I expect Buckshot to go over 300 yards again and have at least 3 TDs. Liberty + 9 is the call here, and the ML at +280 looks tasty too.

Arkansas (-13) vs Colorado State

As a fallout of Michigan renewing their rivalry with Notre Dame, Arkansas has to travel to Ft. Collins to take on the Rams. Already 0-2, including losses to Hawaii and Colorado, the Rams do not look good at all. Arkansas won a nothing game against Eastern Illinois and will have all the kinks worked out by Saturday. I expect the Razorbacks to easily cover. This might be the best pick of the week.

Minnesota (-2.5) vs Fresno State

The Golden Gophers have started 2-0 for the past three years, and this year will be no different. Minnesota should dominate the line of scrimmage, allowing their offense to stay on the field the majority of the game. Fresno State can score points against Idaho at home, but finding the endzone on the road against a Power-5 school will be a lot tougher. The over of 48 in this game is also intriguing, but we are more confident in the cover. (Pick by Dodge Ward)

Kentucky vs Florida (Over 49.5)

Florida took care of business in their cupcake opener, as all good teams should. This week the Gators will be more motivated with their first conference game, albeit against the SEC doormat, and Gainesville will be vibin’. Dan Mullen’s team may hit the over themselves, but a few touchdowns from Kentucky makes this a lock. (Pick by Dodge Ward)

Arkansas State vs Alabama (-37)

Grumpy Nick Saban still claims he is undecided in the Tide’s QB situation, so both signal callers will be trying to make an impression. Bama won’t let off the gas in this one, and they should win by 40.

The USC Pick:

USC (+5.5) vs Stanford

Under JT Daniels, the Trojans were able to move the ball against UNLV in week 1, but settled for too many field goals to cover. After a quiet start, Daniels seemed to gain confidence as the game went on and showed he was not afraid to pull the trigger on the deep ball. On the ground, all three of USC’s backs shined in their moments, although the Trojan defense struggled to stop the run when the Rebels had the ball. Therefore, Stanford’s Bryce Love will have wide-eyes heading into this one. However, Stanford also struggled out of the gate against a formidable San Diego State team, which forced their quarterback Captain Knauer*, I mean KJ Costello, to beat the Aztecs. Both teams have a lot to prove in this early conference showdown. To quote America’s favorite grandpa Lee Corso, it’ll be “closer than the experts think”.

*William Fichtner’s Knauer. (If you don't get the reference, do yourself a favor and watch Longest Yard. Now.)

Addict Pick

This week the addict pick is a ridiculous 3-way Parlay: USC Money Line (+180), Liberty Money Line (+265), and Arkansas (-13.5). A $30 bet here wins you $450. Need I say more?
